Nib Grinding with CY

August 8 - August 10, 2025

What started as a mutual admiration on Instagram turned into a real-life collaboration that we were so honored to host. On August 18th, we welcomed CY, aafountain pen enthusiast, podcaster, writer, and nib grinder, to Yoseka for a full day of nib grinding appointments, tuning sessions, and fountain pen conversations.

If you’re in the fountain pen world, there’s a good chance you already know CY through one of the many hats he wears. Maybe from his blog and shop, Tokyo Station Pens, or from Tokyo Inklings, the podcast he co-hosts with @fudefan that’s gotten us through many an early-morning packing shift here at the shop. For many of us at Yoseka, hearing CY’s voice on the podcast every week made it feel like we already knew him, so when he reached out about a nib grinding stop in NYC, we were thrilled to offer up Yoseka as a home base.

Throughout the day, CY set up at the front of our shop and worked closely with each appointment, Listening carefully, explaining the process, and grinding each nib with incredible focus and precision. Customers brought in their pens and walked away with completely transformed writing experiences, including CY’s well-known Naginata-style grind.

It was such a rare and special opportunity to watch someone so knowledgeable and deeply passionate about the craft at work, and even better, to see the excitement on everyone’s faces as they tested out their newly ground nibs. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, waited patiently, asked thoughtful questions, and shared in this fountain pen moment with us.

And to CY—thank you again for letting us be a small part of your nib grinding caravan. We hope it’s not the last time!
